Default finding a ak

I am having a very difficult time finding one of these, I went to the gun show at louisville kentucky fairgrounds a while back, way before the presidental election kicked in, when you could still find yugos online for $500, full stock model at that, and was suprised at the lack of availability even then. One guy had a polytech, to much for me, another had a underfold yugo mixed in with some ar's, but I wanted to get a full stock model instead, and the last person I saw had a table at the end with about 5 or 6 romanians and a mak 90, not being a fan of thumbhole stock and not wanting a romanian since they are the cheapest route to go, and most ugly I passed and left with nothing. There is a gun shop called tilfords near my house, which doesn't carry military style weapons, except for a couple ar's, another place called Biffs, buffs, bills gun shop( don't know the actual name), they carry no military style weapons unless you count m1 carbines and surplus rifles. I went to hunters world, which as the name suggest carries almost exclusively hunting rifles and has a decent selection of handguns, Basspro is also within driving range but doesn't do much outside of hunting rifles and shotguns and handguns. I went to shooters supply, and they had me conviced I could get whatever I wanted by the way they advertise themselves, and I almost could, with rifles and shotguns around the walls, cases full of handguns, 50 cals on the floor, surplus rifles sitting on racks in the middle of the floor, and a wall filled with ar's and HK clones, everything except a ak, besides the ak pistol in one of there cases. Finally I went to Knob Creek and I was sure I could get something there, I did see a tantal, but I wanted a 7.62 ak and they may have had 1 or 2 more but I passed for whatever reason. Other than that I saw a line of sks's, ars, 50 cals, and everything else you could possible want.
So whats the deal, do people in kentucky not like the ak, because I sure can't find any and that was before the presidential election became an issue, I would really like to have one, anyone know of any gun stores around louisville that has one, I am willing to go with a romanian now, my only requirement is for it to be full stock, I really do like the bulgarians though, seem to be the best for the money right now.

cool, I decided to look for transfer dealers in my area and I noticed shooters supply is on there for $20 a gun, I seen a nice selection of ak's on atlantic firearms and according to their ordering info they maintain a list of dealers and I may not have to go make prior arangements and get a copy off the FFL like with other internet sales. I would perfer buying in a store, but if I had to resort to online this looks like the way to go, does anyone have experiece with buying from atlantic firearms and how the whole process works, I always avoided internet sales with the hassel of getting a copy of my ffl and making arangements to pick up the item.

Cloud I have owned a Romanian WASR and SAR1. The SAR1 was nicer and I think even harder to find these days than the WASR. I currently own an AK74 Bulgarian in 5.45x 39. I bought it from Ohio Rapid Fire and it is a very nice gun. Give Rapid Fire a search on google see what you think. They might have one for you if you are interested.

Did you try Kiesler's, or 111 Gun Shop, over in Clarksville/Jeffersonville? Kiesler's is sorta out of the way to find, but 111 is visible from I-65, in between Eastern Blvd and the Sports Drome speedway. Both are less than 5 miles across the river, and don't require a transfer, for long guns.

111 Gun Shop is new this year, I haven't even been there yet, and Kiesler's has irritated me so bad I'll probably NEVER go back, but those are two places you hadn't mentioned, and you seem determined to get an AK............

I don't really want to do an out of state transfer, that is sort of a last resort. I have never been to the other shops, what about Kieslers is so irritating? I have never been their either though I saw a add for them in the phonebook.

I guess it's because I've known them for a long time, and now they've gotten all PC, which I despise, and because of their newer policies. You could, in the past, do some dealing and get some decent prices on stuff, but in the past few years, they've become one of those places with an "MSRP Plus" pricing policy, they've put themselves out of reasonable pricing. They are known for jacking the price up every chance they get, for any reason they can come up with, legit or not. With the election only a week gone by, I'd bet they've added $300 to the price on all ARs and AKs, and tripled or quadrupled the prices on magazines and appropriate ammo. I dont' know that for sure, since I haven't been in there, but I've seen them do it before, many, many times. Back when the .17 HMR was new, and ammo was scarce, and retailed for $12.95, they had a few boxes left, and wanted $19.95 for it. I could get it elsewhere (Midsouth) for about half that, and did so.
They also no longer carry any kind of variety of reloading components, or don't stock enough to justify the drive over there, and IF they have anything in stock, they want $4 more per pound than the only other stocking dealer in the area. All that said, I refuse to go back there. I know Doug Kiesler pretty well, but he won't get any of my business again, and he knows it, and knows why.
